World Literature Week

This week began with the children reading and following instructions on how to make cookies.

The children were then able to enjoy cookies and milk during their 'bedtime' reading sessions. It was a wonderful learning experience for the children to hear stories in different languages. The children loved dressing up in their pyjamas for this activity.

We have been reading the story of Zagazoo by Quentin Blake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCgIDN2eo8Q
We have looked closely at the illustrations and watched a video of Quentin Blake explaining how he draws the characters in his stories (he also illustrates stories for other authors)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZJm6QXSOP4 . Did you know Quentin Blake starts by drawing the nose when he is drawing people!

Armed with this knowledge we created our own images in the same style as Quentin Blake. We practiced on whiteboards first and then transferred these images on to paper.

We explored different media to create a range of effects: white chalk on black paper; charcoal on white paper, and black pen with water colours. Come and have a look at the display outside our classroom.

We had a shared reading session with Year 4. They read stories to us and then we showed them how good our reading is!

All week we had been very excited about dressing up as a book character... On Friday we had a great time talking about our costumes and the stories in which our characters appeared.

We enjoyed sharing our learning from this week with our parents: our pictures inspired by Quentin Blake and our stories based on the Zagazoo.
