One World Week

As part of One World Week the children have been looking at the country of Australia. They used QR codes to research information related to: the climate; food and drink; animals and travel experiences.






They listened to and discussed the events of the story 'What Made Tiddalik Laugh'.

They have enjoyed learning to sing and dance to the well-known Australian song 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport'.

The children looked at pictures of food that they might eat if they were in Australia: Fairy Bread and Vegemite Sandwiches. They discussed the ingredients and how this food could be made. The children then made their own versions of these foods. Many of the children did not like the smell of the Vegemite, but actually enjoyed the taste.

























Some of the children had found out that grapes are grown in many areas of Australia for the purpose of being made into drinks. We tried the child friendly version... CHEERS!!








The children were very excited with the culmination of the week being International Day. They looked wonderful in their clothes from their home nations. The enjoyed the experience of being part of the Whole School Parade of Nations. Their energy and enthusiasm was clear for all to see during the dance performance on stage.

Running, Writing and... Marshmallows!

This week the children have discussed a series of pictures and then written a story about what happened. The story involved a monster creeping up behind a boy toasting marshmallows on a camp fire. As we all (including Ms Thurlow and Ms Cherry) love marshmallows so much we decided to make a Cadbury's hot chocolate, marshmallow drink. We predicted whether the chocolate powder would dissolve better in cold or hot water... and the result was, of course hot water. Did you know that if you are going to have hot chocolate then you also need biscuits to dip in it? During our English lessons we have been reading the story of The Turtle and the Monkey. This week we have planned our own version of this story, by changing parts of the story. We have also begun to create a story S to tell our stories by drawing the illustrations. Next week we will add the writing to our story S.

A Visitor from the North Pole!

This morning all of the children arrived at school full of excitement and big smiles on their faces! They enjoyed looking at each others clothes. We were very lucky because Santa took time out of his busy schedule to pay us a visit! We were SO EXCITED and jumped all over Santa! Fortunately we have all made it onto Santa's 'Good List'! PARTY TIME!!

Awesome Artists

This week the children have designed and made price labels for their bags for life, ready to sell to their parents. The money raised will be donated to Clown Eckie for the charity 'A Gift of Happiness'. https://www.gohappiness.org/ The children have also begun to think about their contribution to the back drop for the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Performance. They are creating repeating patterns on pyjamas. The first part of this process was to draw their designs on paper. They then put the paper on top of a polystyrene tile and pressed the pencil through the paper where they had drawn lines. The children will then use acrylic paints to create the printed images... look out for them when you are watching the Performance!
