International Arts Week

As part of their learning this week the children used maps to discuss the names of different continents. They then used this information to find Asia, which is the area of the world Year 1 focused on. We used the Lotus Lake in Udon Thani as a starting point for our art work.

We used this link to discuss how people might travel to the lake.

This link enabled us to see some close-up images of the lotus flowers.

We made some observational drawings of lotus flowers. We looked closely at the the shape of the petals and the different patterns on the stems.

We had great fun getting messy whilst exploring the clay. We talked about how to change the clay to get the shapes we wanted.

We let the clay air dry for two days and then painted our lotus flowers with acrylic paint. We mixed our own shades of pink to colour the petals.

Look at our finished results. What do you think?
